to datarecoveryce.

   Model : WDC WD80EFBX-68AZZN0
  Serial : VRGWHL6K
Firmware : 85.00A85
Capacity : 8 TB (15 628 053 168)

This drive was dropped
h0 was bent and gone
swapped in new heads
drive came ready after a few tries
accept PSID
backedup resources
ran structure test
sound good
but gets error when you read UNC ABR

Ace says a head probably cant read surface ( maybe scratches)
I would like to edit the head map but ace says not supported.
Is there a way to edit headmap

thanks

Does it give UNC ABR if doing a write test on a useless module in SA? If, yes, probably system head is not reading/is damaged.

If not, then where is the drive coming from? External Drive (maybe there is encryption through the controller board)?

h0 was missing
so that platter is probably scratched
when we put the new heads in it tried to ready but quit shortly
we repowered a few times and it retried longer and finally recalled and came ready
we read the SA
backed up resources, logs etc.
left it for ace to look at.
next repower it doesnt come ready anymore
h0 is probably crashing and got lucky once.
If we could ram map head map then we could disable 0 add probably start cloning.
cant do the write test now
so its done for now....

Thanks for the suggestion

Yeah, definitely sounds like disk damage.

HGST CCB-s don't like when you disable heads in the map, especially system heads, even if the map would have been supported by PC3K it likely wouldn't be of any help.
