We are probably seeing one of the biggest mass migration in recent history. Is anyone collecting this data? Can we do something as a community?

We are running a helpline in Telangana and AP for migrant workers. Would love to share the data that we are collecting in Airtable.

It might be possible to get some data on migrants going back to home states through the railways.

For road migration, we could try and get data on the temporary camps that the state governments had set up.

Another inexact way could be to check state government resources for the number of migrants fed - I dont know if this is available anywhere though.

Wow I really like the idea. If someone makes a repository can you please share it? Wouldn't some humanitarian groups be working on a repository like this? They might be able share the information they have.

Hi!

Govts have travel data but don't know if they will share it. Many states like Karnataka are using travel pass system to give travel permission. This msg has circulated widely (forms for different states' people to fill). It is all available but with different states. All have their own portals.

How to get this for private research is gonna be tricky. But it's good data. I'm helping fill up these forms so I know what details they're capturing - name, age (not all have), gender, current address, home address, state to which they want to travel, phone number, ID number (whatever ID they have).

Hi,

Many workers would have working mobile connections and thus mobile companies would have the data based on roaming/call tower handovers. I am trying to get this data after anonymizing in a summary (consolidated) format, but no luck so far due to confidentiality concerns and potential political ramifications.
