Marriage data

Hello,

As part of my senior thesis in Economics, I am interested in studying the impacts of a policy which may disrupt children's educational attainment on child marriage in India. I expect reports of child marriage to be fairly inaccurate, and would expect that people report instead the minimum age for marriage on certificates. Does anyone know of a source in which I can obtain marriage data? The NSS and other surveys are conducted somewhat infrequently and I am interested in an annual measure.

To the best of my knowledge, the only household survey that is conducted annually is the Consumer Pyramids Survey by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy. But there are two caveats. One, I highly doubt that it consists of the variable you are looking for. Two, it can be accessed only if your institution pays for a subscription to it.

In short, the chances that you will find this variable at an annual frequency at the individual/household level are pretty low, at least based on what I know. However, if you are willing to let go of the 'annual' or 'high frequency' constraint, then you have the IHDS, NFHS, and NSS surveys.

However, I may stand corrected since learning never ends!
