Hi folks,
We are looking for guidance on sourcing reliable and validated shapefiles for Gram Panchayats in India.

We explored the Local Government Directory (LGD) website, but were unable to find usable or meaningful spatial data specifically for Gram Panchayats. In this context, we had a few related questions:

1. Are there authoritative or widely used sources for Gram Panchayat boundary shapefiles? If yes, which datasets or platforms would you recommend?

2. Is there a publicly available and reliable village-to-Gram Panchayat mapping table? If so, what is the source?

3. Are there trusted datasets that provide information on Gram Panchayat offices (such as location or address or any administrative details)? If yes, where can these be accessed?

Any pointers, links, or documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Supriya

https://github.com/ramSeraph/indian_admin_boundaries/releases/tag/panchayats has most of what of the geospatial data you are looking for, I think. How official it is anyone's guess. The egramswaraj part of the data might have a lot of the panchayat HQ data.. though not intentionally.

The panchayat to village mapping is at https://ramseraph.github.io/opendata/lgd/ this one is sourced from LGD. Look for gp_mapping in the dropdown.

I would also recommend looking at https://www.devdatalab.org/shrug

The Survey of India Village Boundary Database is a free, reliable, and authoritative source for village boundaries. Since Gram Panchayats are aggregations of villages, this dataset can be used as a base to derive Gram Panchayat boundaries.
