Residential houses, Apartment, Commercial and Malls in any AOI through OSM

Hi I need a help to extract number of 

1) Residential houses, 2) Apartments, 3) Commercial spaces (for offices) and 4) Shopping Malls.

This is required to estimate water consumption demand in any location.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ravi,

1. Use this link to extract the required data from OSM: http://overpass-turbo.eu/

2. You might have to understand what tags are used on OSM associated with the data you are interested with. This link should help you with discovering those tags: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tags. Just search with natural language and you'll find a bunch of tags that you will have to use in the first link.

3. If you can code, then Overpass also has an API. This is a good introduction to how you can use this API to programatically extract data.

Good morning.

Besides the overpass API, you can access all of the OSM fields as Shapefiles here

http://download.geofabrik.de/asia/india.html as 5 regional files.

Because of the size, all-India is not available as a Shapefile
