Hi All,

I'm running into a problem with my xsdir file lookup. When I run DAGMCNP6, with some models, the program is unable to find my xsdir_mcnp6.2 file, but with others, it finds the xsdir_mcnp6.2 file without any problem. When it's unable to find the correct xsdir file, it says

warning.  Default xsdir_mcnp6.2 not found. Switching to backup, xsdir

even though there is a xsdir_mcnp6.2 file in the same directory. This problem doesn't occur when I run my regular install of MCNP6. I'm sure I'm making some silly mistake but your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Not a proper fix, but does it run if you set the environmental variable DATAPATH to your xsdir ?

Hi,
Yes, my DATAPATH is already set to the directory where both my xsdir and xsdir_mcnp6.2 files are. My workaround is to have the xsdir and xsdir_mcnp6.2 files be identical, because it is able to find the xsdir file. I'm not sure why it can't see the default xsdir_mcnp6.2. Thanks for the help.

Hi there,

There could be a few subtle things happening here, so the following thoughts may be off base.

I think I would normally expect MCNP to look for `xsdir` by default, and only use the `xsdir_mcnp6.2` if explicitly told to do so.  This can be done in the first line of the input file or on the command line.

Alternatively, many people may have a symbolic link named `xsdir` that points to the `xsdir_mancp6.2` file.

Paul

Hi Paul,

In the MCNP 6.2 manual, Table 1-2 says "The default name for the XSDIR file in MCNP6 (Version 2) is xsdir_mcnp6.2." So I'm still not totally sure what's going on here.

However, my workaround of just making my xsdir and xsdir_mcnp6.2 files identical seems to work fine. Thanks for the help!
