Thanks Allison.

Much of the news is bleak, or worse, erratic and inconsistent. 

There was, however, this article yesterday from the conservative leaning Washington Examiner: 

Regardless, the erratic nature of the proclamations make it difficult, if not impossible, to plan data rescue efforts, much less consistent use of the datasets in research or industry. Is the reprieve temporary? For a week? A month? A year?

The good news? The Data Rescue Project has been focused on NOAA data for some time, they have rescued many of the datasets and are continuing with it.

The bad news? Some of the repositories of rescued NOAA datasets are themselves under threat (at universities, for example).

As mentioned before, volunteers are welcome.
