area upgrades/changes

Hi,

 

I have no idea who is still on this, hopefully it is enough to get some upgrades done.

 

1^st.

Edgemead are busy replacing all their links, mostly with Ubiquity AC equipment, or 2ghz equipment.  And adding backbones to KM, Firestarter and possibly sneaki.

I’d like us to benefit from this as well as give them access to our links.  The best option to link the 2 areas is going to be through Lurker,  so I would like to upgrade the lurker-Pro99 link to Lite-Beams https://scoop.co.za/ubiquiti-5ghz-airmax-ac-litebeam-23dbi-cpe.html they are inexpensive and CTWUG has had good results using them.

We will probably link Lurker to TheMead or Sipex.

I will probably create a project on CTWUG Finance for each of these links so they can contribute half, since we are not in a huge rush to get this done.

 

2^nd

We are also going to be losing Pro99-KMAirwolf.

As far as I know they are doing some work on the roof at Airwolf, and there is no guarantee we will get the link back once the work is done.

CTWUG has agreed to give us the dish at Airwolf so we can use it for another link, at the moment I don’t know where that will go.

 

3^rd

Potman is moving, We are looking at alternatives to connect cheaptrick-???-Ryan and we will try get him reconnected once he has moved.

@Mark you have been more involved in this than me, shout if you need help.

 

4^th

The RB750 at Pro99 has been hanging and rebooting every 15min, I’m not sure what is causing it, but I will try reset and reconfigure it in the near future.

@Andre / @Ampie, I will let you know when I do it, just let me know if anything breaks.

 

If anyone know of any other links that need work, let me know, and we can try to include them

Hello there guys and gals

 

Pottie you are the elected gal in the group. This is what is proposed for the area Bothasig.

 

1. The Potman69 #922 link is coming down Thursday the 27^th April. We want the move the sector to Samie #8824. The 3 clients currently on that sector will have to realign.

Then we would like to connect Samie #8824 to DaveMorley #6505 using 2x lightbeams (https://scoop.co.za/ubiquiti-5ghz-airmax-ac-litebeam-23dbi-cpe.html)

This is the first that needs to happen asap. At Dave Morley we would like to add  a mikrotik POE/Router (https://scoop.co.za/mikrotik-hex-poe-5xge-4xpoe-1xsfp-ros-l4.html)

 

2. The link between Lurker #1757 and Pro99 #1275 is mikrotik sxt to sxt. We would like to upgrade this link to 2x lightbeams (https://scoop.co.za/ubiquiti-5ghz-airmax-ac-litebeam-23dbi-cpe.html and we would like to add a mikrotik POE/Router to Lurker for easier control (https://scoop.co.za/mikrotik-hex-poe-5xge-4xpoe-1xsfp-ros-l4.html)

We also need to think about removing the supaman #7242 link sxt to sxt at Lurker and maybe adding him to Sipex #2374 or to TheMead #2618.

 

3. The next link is a Bothasig-Edgemead link. We want to try and link Lurker #1757 to either Sipex #2374 or to TheMead #2618. We would like to get 2x lightbeams for this connection (https://scoop.co.za/ubiquiti-5ghz-airmax-ac-litebeam-23dbi-cpe.html)

 

4. A new link between either Cheaptrick #1121 or DaveMorley #6505 and Wolf #2037. Waiting for los tests. There should be enough equipment for this.

 

What we would like to do is to create a project page for the top 3 projects. We would like donations from the area were possible for these links. We are also going to ask Edgemead to join use with donations for the Lurker to Sipex or TheMead link.

 

Please if there are any better ideas let us know what you guys think.

 

Then thanks to Bruce for sorting out Pro99 issue with the hanging of the Airwolf link.

Myself and firestarter should start doing scan this week from sipex and pro2col  to Bothasig. We will let you know what the results are.

I also tuned the Pro99-Airwolf link is doing much better now.
