Dear Colleagues,
I hope this message finds you well.
My name is Tracy Crump, and I serve as the Coordinator of Academic Success at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. I’m reaching out to seek some guidance as we navigate the implementation of the revised ACA 122 course at our institution.
As part of this transition, we’re evaluating the role of ACA 115 in our curriculum and I’m interested in learning how other colleges across the state are approaching this change.
Specifically, I’d like to know whether your institution has fully phased out ACA 115, and if so, how that transition has gone—both from an instructional and institutional standpoint.
If your college has stopped offering ACA 115:
  • What was your timeline and rationale for discontinuing it?
  • How has the transition to the new ACA 122 been received?  (faculty, students, and advising staff)
  • How have your AAS/CTE students handled it if you did phase out ACA 115?
  • Are you encountering any unexpected challenges or benefits?
Your feedback would be incredibly helpful as we shape our own strategy. If you're willing to share your experience I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance for your time and collaboration.
Best regards,
Tracy

Hello Dr Crump,
Here at Vance-Granville Community College, we still offer ACA 115 to students who are not planning college transfer. ACA 115 concentrates more on Career Exploration, which is necessary and needed for students who plan to join the workforce within the next two years.

We also offer it to first-year Early College students to assist them with getting some direction on their career interests. Then they take ACA 122 as juniors in Early College.

I hope this helps.
Best,
Robinette
