I am looking to see what curriculum  others are using to teach AP Computer Science Principles.  I am also looking to see if there is good professional development and or teaching materials to go along with this curriculum.  Your ideas are appreciated.  Thanks
Peace

Shawn,
If you are looking for free curriculum, Code.org has an AP CSP course that I have used and like.  They offer PD in the summer.  This year I incorporated CMU Academy's units for the Python coding (replaced Units 3-5 and unit 7 from code.org with this).  They have a syllabus that includes that change.  I felt Python was more useful than javascript.

I also have some experience with UTeach's AP CSA and loved it.  I haven't tried their AP CSP.  There is a fee for the curricula and for training.
Good luck!

Shawn,
I did a week-long summer training at Taft for their AP CS Principles and I see the same person is still teaching it, she was excellent, although it says it is online this year.

Shawn-
Make sure that the curriculum you select is on the Data Privacy list as some districts IT are very strict about that.

Code.org classes should be fine. They made some important changes for this school year that helped. My district is very strict about data privacy and they’ve approved code.org.

I am from the Beauty and Joy of Computing (BJC) created at University of California, Berkeley. We are offering many online workshops throughout the summer. Feel free to learn more at bjc.berkeley.edu/summer-pd

I think all of the approved providers have done a great job with alignment and with user-friendly lessons. For most people it comes down to language, devices, and/or training. Unfortunately, for NH teachers it often comes down to the Data Privacy Law. If your school strictly follows the law, like mine does, then I don't think you can use CMU, BJC, or CS50. We have not been able to use Mobile CSP/App Inventor, but they are moving to Runestone so that may be a possibility in the near future.
Right now, the only ones that I am aware of that you can use are Code.org, CodeHS, and Edhesive (again, this is only if your school adheres to the law). There could be others that are approved, but I'm not aware of any.
Good luck,
Joanne

And as the Director who had to say no, I implore all chapters of the CSTA but NH-CSTA in particular, to advocate on behalf of New Hampshire schools to get these organizations on board. We are rapidly moving towards a nationwide data privacy agreement which should help things but pressure from their constituents may help move this very important matter along.

Data privacy doesn't apply to BJC because there are no student accounts so to speak. Everything is publicly available and does not need a login to use. If you're concerned about using Snap! (our blocks based programming language), it can be used without the cloud storage feature.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I agree with John, this is an issue that CSTANH could (should) address in order to get more organizations to sign the agreement.
Lauren, I'm a little confused about how students use Snap! without the cloud storage. If they are doing work on a desktop at school doesn't that mean that they would not be able to continue their work at home on their Chromebooks or personal computer?
Thanks,
Joanne

Users don't need to create an account with Snap! to use Snap!. You can export your project as an XML file to save it to your desktop, then import it back into Snap! when you're ready to work on it more. :)
