CSOB/Ol’Pokes
Dave Ocken here. It has come to my attention that I need to clear the air regarding a misunderstanding. Recently, the 1990 to 2012 CSOB/Ol’ Pokes History was put out to everyone as it should have been. But, I did not write that historical account. Fred Alexander wrote this history. He had input from others listed at the end of the document, and I assumed that everyone would understand that it as written by those members. I should have mentioned this in the header.
While on their way to the Breckenridge St. Valentine Massacre, Bill and Joe stopped by here in Dillon to see Clara and me. We enjoyed a few beers, food, and reminiscing old times, as well as the current status of the club. That got me to thinking of past documents that I still had on my computer and I found the History that Fred had written. To complement some of our conversation of the night before, I sent it on to Bill. He sent it on to the club members. Though being terribly incomplete, it had a lot of good information on the history of CSOB.
After I started playing rugby in 1970, I ultimately hooked up with the CSOB about 1997-98. Clara and I quickly became active in helping Fred and Earnie however we could. I can understand how some long time club members and current club members could have thought that I wrote the History. I did not. Please forgive me for not making that clear at the outset.
It is obvious that Fred’s history is incomplete. Several of the oldest members of the club have moved on, but there are a few that are still around. Also, there are those of you that have a lot more information about the history of the club. That information could be, and should be, added to the CSOB/Ol’ Pokes history. We are all interested in what you know, and the stories you have.
