That's a good one, Gene!  Thankfully I rarely have much of an issue with that.

resaca 📢 - undertow, hangover

resaca

FEMININE NOUN
1.  [de mar] undertow ⧫ undercurrent
2.  [de borrachera] hangover
3.  (reacción) reaction ⧫ backlash
la resaca blanca the white backlash
4.  (Latin America) (informal) (aguardiente) high-quality liquor
5.  (Southern Cone) (en playa) line of driftwood and rubbish (left by the tide)
6.  (Southern Cone) (informal) (personas) dregs plural of society
7.  (Caribbean) (paliza) beating

  • Beber agua antes de acostarse o durante la resaca puede aliviar los síntomas asociados a la deshidratación.
Drinking water before bed or during a hangover can alleviate the symptoms associated with dehydration.

  • Despertarse con resaca, 20 minutos antes de un examen.
Waking up with a hangover, 20 minutes before an exam.

  • Piensas que hay una resaca mística en la vida.
You believe there is a mystical undercurrent in life.

  • En estas aguas, hay una resaca que no puede ver.
In these waters, there's an undertow that you can't see.

In Costa Rica, goma (rubber) is commonly used for hangover.

Eugenio,

Con mucho gusto. A cualquier hora (anytime).  Es un placer servirle. Sorry about the vulgarities.

I have been learning  Colombian slang since I am starting a business there (Medellín) with a partner. However, all is on hold because of the pandemic.

Take a look at www.liveincolombia.com. Thirty to forty percent less expensive as here and an interesting culture. Actually, not as dangerous as it is made out to be. Pablo Escobar is long gone. However, I would not trade it for Costa Rica, my home for 40 years.

All for now.

Don poquito Gene:  that's an interesting idea, about asking bio info from our members.  Some might have problems with it, or might become mentirosos.  Let's consider adding:  What brought you to Costa Rica, and what compels you to continue Living In Costa Rica?    What are your thoughts, Sam?

Don Genito y Christopher, etc.

I was going to create a new survey and report on last week's survey yesterday, but instead we had a nice BBQ from early afternoon until late at night.  How about I'll create a new anonymous survey including questions like that and get the final results out from last week's survey?

Suggested questions:
  • Where are you from?
  • How long have you lived in Costa Rica?
  • Are you retired?
  • What is/was your profession/job/
  • Do you have kids in Costa Rica/
  • What brought you to Costa Rica?
  • What compels you to continue Living In Costa Rica?
Anything else we should add?  Or reword?

Suggestions are very welcome!  jajaja.

Hi Joe,

Yes, I think many of these types of questions are not so simple to answer by picking from a list of 5 or 6 items.  I tried to build this new survey, the LiCR Demographics 2020/07/26 survey, based upon the demographics questions Gene and Christopher already answered personally.  Please let me know what you think and also what questions would be good for our next survey.

Thanks,

Sam
