LiCR,

el aderezo - salad dressing, seasoning of cooked dish, or ornament/decoration/adornment

aderezo

MASCULINE NOUN
1.
(preparación) preparation
(adorno) decoration
dar el aderezo definitivo a algo to put the finishing touch to something
2.
(Cookery)

(aliño) seasoning ⧫ dressing
(Sewing) adornment
(reparación) repair
3.  (joyas) set of jewels

In Costa Rica I've never heard aderezo used for anything besides salad dressing, and in our neck of the woods folks are not accustomed to drowning their salads in store bought dressing. We use a lot of lemon juice and some sal and maybe mayonnaise and maybe less frequently vinagre.

  • Vierta el aderezo sobre la ensalada y mezcle bien para combinar.
Pour the dressing over the salad and toss it well to combine it.

  • El aderezo a un lado, gracias.
Please put the salad dressing on the side.

Types of salad dressings:

aderezo griego - Greek dressing
vinagreta balsámica de fresa - strawberry balsamic vinaigrette
aderezo ranchero - ranch dressing
aderezo de queso azul - bleu cheese dressing
aderezo italiano - Italian dressing
aderezo de miel - honey dressing
aderezo de semillas de amapola - poppy seed dressing
aderezo francés - French dressing
aderezo cesar - Caesar dressing

Receta para Aderezo de Queso Azul

6 cucharadas de mayonesa
3 cucharadas de mostaza
6 cucharadas de yogur
6 cucharadas de vinagre de vino tinto
½ taza de aceite de oliva
200 gr queso azul

Preparación

Colocar en un bol el diente de ajo picado, la mayonesa, la mostaza y el yogur, mezclar hasta integrar completamente.

Agregar el vinagre de vino tinto y el aceite de oliva, batir con un batidor de globo hasta emulsionar.

Para culminar agregar pequeños trozos de queso azul.

¡Sabroso!

Hola Sam,

Aderezo can also be used in a figurative sense like to spice something up or add something to a story or comment by using the verb aderezar
