Dear Colleagues,

Updating the DC Core Internet Values Website has been on my infinitely long to-do list for several years. The previous Website did not do the DC-CIV justice at all, especially in light of the many sessions and inter-sessional work the DC-CIV has undertaken over the years. To cut a long story short, I managed to steal some time here and there over several months, but also was helped profusely, I am not ashamed to admit it, by claude.ai

This was followed by hours spent on Adobe Dreamweaver (which took my mind back to my HTML coding days in 1995) fixing things - to produce a result that I am happy with, as a starting point.

I was going to give it the announcement it deserved by launching it at last week's EuroDIG (the European IGF), on EURALO's booth who were kind enough to give us some space. Unfortunately, EuroDIG was only two days long and the dense mesh of sessions with short breaks in between, coupled with the topology and location of the booth, did not allow for any "event" or announcement, so here it is, launched entirely on the Internet:

https://coreinternetvalues.org/

Just like the Internet, the Website is not complete. Any work in progress is never complete!

The following are on the to-do list, in no particular order:
  • Continue adding links to all of our session reports and substantive papers, which I have traced, but some of which are incorrectly stored or missing on the UN IGF Website.I am in touch with the IGF Secretariat and it is taking time for them to perform the update.
  • Link to videos of all of our past sessions/round-tables.
  • Continue updating the list of people who have shaped the DC.
  • Prepare for the Core Internet Values Observatory (CIVOBS).
  • Split the pages into separate pages to make the site truly scaleable.
  • Continue adding more related works. I am aware that many are working in this topic area and it would be interesting to serve as a hub for such activity. This includes works by our past speakers. After all, we are a dynamic space!
  • Perhaps is it time too, to shape our work into the several parallel threads that we have:
    • work on Core Internet Values
    • work with the DC Internet of Things (DC-IoT)
    • work on AI Governance emphasising the parallel between Core Internet Values and Core AI Values

I hope that the Website will instil some new energy in the DC-CIV Community - you finally have a "home" as such and we can use the Website to recognise the work of our Community members better, including the many amazing speakers we have hosted over the years. I hope that this is only a start!

At this point, I wanted to thank Siva for setting up new free hosting at Google Firebase. This is definitely taking us to the future. I also want to thank all of the people that are quoted as having shaped the DC, for having shared their feedback with me when I previewed the Web site with them.

Further feedback is welcome, just email me back privately or on the DC-CIV mailing list.

Kindest regards,

Olivier Crépin-Leblond

Wonderful work Olivier. It's a nice clear theme. I don't know how you find the time!
