Can we produce one of these for both Algosphere and ICASM? This way at one glance, people could see a visual 'tree' or chart, of all the CIs, and then simply click to jump to the one they want. This would massively enhance functionality, and user uptake of CIs!

Regards, Michael

(Perhaps this post should be in the CI "Collaboration Platform / Chantier : Plateforme Collaborative"? But it seem to also go nicely here in the Comco.)

DeepL:

Indeed, tests had been made a few years ago by the WebTeam of Algosphere, but it was not conclusive (in particular to make 1 manipulation in 3D). But it is possible that new tools make it easier to do this now. You should indeed reactivate this old idea in the Alliance WebTeam forum to see if anyone has any ideas now (especially because there is a "revamp" of the website those months).

We also realised that Internet users are interested in very specific topics and are used to frequenting particular centres, which can easily lead them to other connected centres, so this visualisation is less useful than we originally thought. The most important thing is to have the search function using keywords: the Control-Find function (Ctrl+F) is more than enough to cover the basic needs.

Hi Michael.
I and Vic started to build a little python program some time ago, to create graphs of this type for the CI.
Here you can see a first draft : http://ukratio.org/Algosphere/selector.php
The actual program is here : https://github.com/algosphere/algosphere-graph
JCL, I am unsure creating one in 3D would really be useful, actually I think it would make it harder to navigate. (but it would also probably be more fun).

The things which stopped the project were :
- It was somewhat difficult to create and maintain graphs with a clear and logical structure.
- We wanted to create something better and integrated with the site, and the site was in reconstruction.
- There were finally other priorities at the time, and like JCL say, the ability to search is actually more useful (and I think this need some improvements too).

Search feature in CI list will be improved with tags/keywords some day (it's in the task list of the website), technically I see how it can be done quite simply (manually asigning tags to CIs in this file https://github.com/algosphere/algo-website/blob/main/data/portal/centersofinterest/en/centersofinterest.yml and using https://listjs.com/ in the frontend for filtering).

A visual representation could be done (and integrated to the website) with something like https://d3js.org/

But I also wonder if it would be very useful: the algosphere portal is only used by a small number of people right now, and we even considered to remove the entire collaborative platform in one scenario during the (still ongoing) revamp process of algosphere. So a visual representation of the CIs would make sense (it's almost always beneficial to see and interact with concepts visually) but maybe not as a priority or short-term goal in my opinion.

I add the idea to the website task list to keep track of it : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nXhrGaih0b8pFP8Ucf730qY53uq6WcF2PzS4Bp4ynPM/edit

That's it! The draft looks wonderful Denis/Victor! Of course, I understand it is not high priority. Nonetheless thanks for adding it to the list Victor. Even the draft I find incredibly useful to think 'visually' and map out in my 'minds eye' where things are and how they connect. It is very creative and enables one to see new connections and CIs to work in.

If we go this way, of a graphic representation of the links between the centres of interest, I suggest using the Alliance logo as an entry point to such a mappemonde, since it already symbolises the logic of the Alliance's collaborative platform, neurons (centres of interest) connected by synapses (links between centres of interest) with a view to fostering collective intelligence (Algosphere logo = collective brain)

A 3D representation would be all the more impressive as the Alliance logo lends itself very easily to this and could take up the idea of a dynamic LGBTQI+ logo
