AWS Secrets Manager status

Hello,

Does anyone have a clear idea what is going on with backend plugins and AWS Secrets Manager?

I see what appear to be 2 stalled PRs:

https://github.com/kelseyhightower/confd/pull/697

What is needed to move these forward?  Seems like little has happened to confd since I last used it 18 months ago.

Is https://github.com/kelseyhightower/confd just done as a viable project, and needs to be forked and updated by new contributors?

I was always afraid that maintaining so many backends would lead to this. I should have pushed harder on an external plugin model and kept the core simple. I would not be against a fork or transitioning this project to a neutral party under a new name.
