Hi everyone.
I own a Compass 29. Does anyone have a recommendation for fitting of an electric anchor winch at Kettering, Tasmania?
Are there other Compass owners in the area?
Cheers

John, there are a few of you Tassies with Compass' but we don't hear much from down there.  You might ask around for a "Diesel" Dick Davidson. He's a straight shooter and could put you onto someone reliable, I've seen his engine work and trust his opinion especially as a former C29 owner.

Hi John,

I can’t answer your question about the electric anchor but I’m a Compass 29 owner nearby. I live in Woodbridge and Sea Lion is moored in Peppermint Bay. If I remember correctly Maurice, a C29 owner from St Helen’s, is an auto electrician. I’m interested in the answer to your question too.

Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,
Thanks for making contact. It will be great to have someone to chat/share info with.
I bought Orion recently. She is  moored at present near Woy Woy on the NSW central coast. I'm expecting her to set sail for Tas on Wednesday - eta approx 10 days from then. I will be keeping her on the pontoon at Alonnah as I live in Lunawannah (Bruny Island).
I will keep you informed of my search for a good person to do work at Kettering. Do you have contact details for Maurice at St Helens? I would like to see if he could recommend someone.
Would you be interested in sailing in company sometimes?
Regards,
John

Hi John,
I don’t think Maurice would mind me sharing his number. He did post it on the forum at some stage. It’s  03 63 76 1570 . I’m not sure he is still active in the group. Hopefully he is and will respond.  He was certainly a great contributor!  If you search the forum for Mando C29 you will find threads that might be useful. I’ve certainly learned a lot from others in this group.
I’ve had nothing but good experiences with the Oyster Cove Marina and the people providing services in Kettering. In the past few years, I’ve had Sea Lion’s rigging replaced, the diesel essentially rebuilt and a few other odds and ends repaired at Oyster Cove. I met Maurice when he had Mando at Oyster Cove for some work so wouldn’t be surprised if he knew someone here who was electrically inclined.

I’m very keen on sailing in company. We should catch up for a chat sometime soon. My personal email is rlk...@yahoo.do.uk

Regards

Lloyd

Thanks Gent's to protect the innocent, I often blind copy enquiries to interested parties, not divulging contact details but giving the recipient the opportunity to reply or send an opinion via me.

Speaking of I have lost all my phone numbers (iriot I am!) can someone send me Dave Dee's phone #  to 0417 203 146

Hi Lloyd,
The email address you gave me is bouncing, Can we try again?
BTW Orion set off from near Gosford, destination Bruny Island, at 11am this morning.
I think you can share her progress at https://share.garmin.com/J8OC4. (the blue triangle)

Cheers

Hello Geoff,
I hope you are travelling ok. I have spoken with Maurice and his wife (Sue?). They have moved to victoria and therefore very reluctantly sold Mando.
The tracking program tells me that on the trip down from Port Jackson to Bundeena with a following wind Orion averaged 5.56 knots. I'm pretty happy with that,
It also tells me the max. speed reached was 8.86 knots. I assume that would have to be riding a wave. Would you agree?
Cheers
John

Hi John,

My email address is rlk...@yahoo.co.uk.    Note the .co.uk part. That often tricks people.

Strangely the fastest I have ever clocked Maeling was in Northern Bate Bay (Same area as Orion) was 8.5 knots on a fairly big wave from the NE sliding under us, I'd have to check the chart but the water is probably shoaling in that area.
