Folks,
There is so little snow on the ground and so much water in the lake I had to check the calendar just to make sure it was still February. Yes it is still February and still winter but the good news is there are now less than 10 weeks before boats are once again sailing on the Great Sacandaga Lake.
Attached is the latest revision to the 2024 Comm Fleet calendar. Please note all the dates and plan on joining us during the 2024 season.
Punxsutawney Phil said it’s an earlier Spring this year … just saying ….

Folks,
Earlier this week, MYC posted the official calendar. With the MYC event dates locked in, I reviewed dates for all other events and updated the Community Fleet Calendar accordingly. There have been a few tweaks, so please see revision #3 of the calendar which is attached.
Don was kind enough to update the Community Fleet and Boat Rating pages of the MYC website. The pages now have links to current Comm Flt documents as well as a link back to the official Community Fleet website. Thanks, Don !!
If you have questions, know someone who should be added to our mailing list or would like to be removed from this list, please let us know.
As we look out at little snow and a full lake, remember Spring just isn’t that far away.

Subject: 2024 Community Fleet Events
Folks,
We have gotten to that part of the year where today is just a little longer than yesterday. Although the water is very cold (not yet ice I don’t think), we can take some comfort that the new sailing season is as close as the one we left behind. Now that the pandemic is a few years in the rear view mirror, we thought more sailors might be interested in joining the Fleet for a few sailing events in 2024.
A tentative Community Fleet calendar has been attached for your consideration. Although we are only guessing at some of the dates, they are likely placed generally in the right time frames. The hope is we get this out early and everyone builds these dates into their summer schedule. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at this return email address.
My apologies to those that might receive this email twice. As always, if you do not want to be on our mailing list just let us know.
Happy New Year to all,
Dk (Dan Kisel)

Folks,
Well who would have thunk it? Mid-March and there is No ice, a FULL lake and warm temperatures forecasted. At this rate, we’ll have one of those rare years when it will be warm enough to swim on Memorial Day, at least for me. It also means early small boat sailing so whether a catamaran or a Sunfish peel the covers off and wax them up for a long season.
We can finally say we will be sailing next month with only 6 weeks to go until boats are in the water. With the early spring, everyone should have plenty of time to get both the yard and the boat in shape for any early season start.
Going forward, I will be using the Community Fleet email list to touch base with the fleet. If you are not sure if you are on the list or would like to be added to the list let me know and we’ll get you set up.
See you on the water (soon),

Folks,
There is nothing like 16” of snow to readjust your perspective about the start to the season, eh? The good news is with a bit of rain and some above freezing temps, the snow melt is moving along nicely (except for the 5 foot high piles of snow off each end of my deck). Regardless, the lake remains ice free and there could be boats on the water in about 2 weeks. Yes … 2 weeks. Ironically, it might now be the abundance of water that is the delaying factor to the start of the season.
Snow, water … no matter time marches on. 2 weeks until docks are in, 9 weeks until the first scheduled Comm Flt event and only 12 weeks until the big one; the Long Distance Race (LDR). The long range forecast is already looking good.

It is that time of year when calendars start to fill in. Please check out the Comm Flt Calendar (new version attached) and pop in a bunch of sailing dates before non-sailing life crowds onto your sailing time. Remember it is not all about racing. There are “community” events that are just about getting together with old and new sailing friends and having a good time.

Folks,
If all goes well, the MYC docks will be open and ready to accept boats THIS SATURDAY !!
Now that the season is upon us it is time to get a better gauge on who is interested in sailing Community Fleet events this season. I have attached the latest Comm Flt calendar as well as this year’s waiver. Anyone sailing in a Comm Flt event (INCLUDING any crew) must have a waiver on file to start an event. The good news is the waiver covers all Comm Flt events for the entire 2024 season and only has to be completed once.
If you are planning on joining us for any event in 2024, please fill out the attached waiver and return to my personal email. One can also fill out the waiver, take a picture of it and text it to my phone. Those returning the waiver will give us a good idea anticipated level of participation for the 2024 Comm Flt schedule of events. Filing in a blank waiver also allows us to update our information with any changes we have missed over the last several year.
Now that the season is here remember time goes fast. It is only 10 weeks until the Long Distance Race (LDR) and the forecast is still looking great! That would be a beam reach all the down from the bridge. How do you turn that down?!

Yes, we had a late start around 2pm and did a very shortened course. Lots of fun either way.

I have a West Marine bosun’s chair. It is soft, and not as comfortable or easy to work from as the Harken. I will bring it up to the lake today.

Also, the soft bosun’s chair must be used with a safety chest harness.

I left it shackled to your life lines. Make sure you use a chest harness with the bosun’s seat.

Folks,
There is nothing like 16” of snow to readjust your perspective about the start to the season, eh?
