Dear COMBINE community,

I would like to forward this invitation to you that seems to be relevant in the context of the COMBINE standards. In my own talk I also plan to highlight COMBINE and its standards, among other things.

Best regards,

Martin Golebiewski

Subject: Webinar

“Towards broadly applicable standards for in silico approaches in personalized medicine”

Dear H2020 coordinators, experts and partners,

We are pleased to invite you to the webinar co-organised by EU-STANDS4PM and the European Commission that will take place on Wednesday, 14 September 2022 from 14:30–16:30 (CEST) via zoom.

Title: “Towards broadly applicable standards for in silico approaches in personalized medicine”

The webinar will provide an overview of the process and challenges of developing formal as well as community based standards for predictive computational models in personalized medicine.

Topics covered include the development of ISO-Technical Specifications covering requirements and recommendations for the design, development and establishment of predictive computational models in the field of personalized medicine. A specific emphasis is put on collaborative research, such that health-related data can be optimally used for translational research and personalized medicine. The webinar will also focus on computational modelling workflows to enable clinical integrated decision support systems that can be used to enhance the accuracy and reinforcement of multidisciplinary decision-making processes.

A live question-and-answer session will allow participants the opportunity for real-time guidance and follow-up. If interested after the webinar, projects could have bilateral, exploratory meetings with EU-STANDS4PM.

Speakers include:

Martin Golebiewski, Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies HITS gGmbH, Germany

Marc Kirschner, Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, Germany

Heike Moser, The German Institute for Standardisation DIN, Germany

Tito Poli, University Medical Center of Parma, Italy

The registration is free but mandatory; please register here: https://formulare.ptj.de/ec_eu_stands4pm_webinar

You will receive a link to join the webinar after completing the registration process.

We very much hope that you would be able to attend.

Sincerely yours,

The organising team

Christina Kyriakopoulou, Policy officer - Team leader Rare Diseases & Biotools, DG-RTD, European Commission

Marc Kirschner, Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, Coordinator of EU-STANDS4PM

Sylvia Krobitsch, Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH

Thanks Martin,

Looks really interesting, could you please clarify the intended audience?

I appreciate your comment about reinforcing multidisciplinary decision-making, but it still looks as though this will be more a technical talk directed towards the implementation side of things?

As opposed to, for example, clinicians who are collecting and wanting to make use of data.

Apologies if this is totally obvious and I've just missed it!

Thanks,
Sarah

Dear Sarah,

Thanks for your questions.

The audience is mainly composed of people from the research field in personalized medicine that already include or would like to include in silico approaches into their workflows and tools. It also addresses researchers, modellers and developers that already do or would like to apply their research data, models and/or tools in personalized medicine.

Actually, it's not only me presenting, but 4 speakers talking about different aspects:
- Introduction into the need for standardization in the field and overview about the European EU-STANDS4PM project (Marc Kirschner)
- Introduction into formal (ISO/CEN/DIN, etc.) standardization process (Heike Moser)
- Introduction in some relevant standards (including COMBINE standards, as well as ISO standards and others)
- Presentation of an ISO draft standard ("Recommendations and requirements for predictive computational models in personalized medicine research — Part 2: Guidelines for implementing computational models in clinical integrated decision support systems") for clinical decision support systems in personalized medicine (Tito Poli)

The invitation text was formulated by the organizing team, not be myself, but the talks are rather less technical, but focus more on the conceptual and requirements side of things. Please note that decision support systems are a novel approaches to support practitioners in the clinics by computer tools, also involving modelling and simulation techniques.

Hope that explains it a bit better.

Thanks for your interest and best regards,
Martin
