First of all I want to thank all those who contributed to the creation of Collins Zyzzyva. It would have been most unfortunate if no free study tool were available after the transition to CSW15.

Now to the question: I have been cardboxing extensively using Zyzzyva 2.2.1 and CSW 12. Is it possible to transfer the cardbox to Collins Zyzzyva and CSW15? I realize that I could just start over, but then I would have to work my way through "easy"words for a while. Another alternative is to try to set up a reasonable initial cardbox state in Collins Zyzzyva using a set of searches followed by Add Words to Cardbox with cleverly thought out settings for Specify cardbox.

Can anyone that has successfully migrated their cardbox from CSW12 to CSW15 please give a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this?  It seems that there have been no replies to Gunnar's question.  I thought someone had posted a guide 2-3 weeks ago on Scrabble Snippetz, but I was unable to find it again.

Many thanks

Terry

In old Zyzzyva click on;  Edit-Preferences.

You should be able to see "Data directory Location". It should be something like C:/Users/rick/Dropbox/apps/zyzzyva
Navigate to this directory, and from there into quiz/data/CSW12

Copy anagrams.db

In Collins Zyzzyva find the Data directory location as above.  Something like C:/Users/rick/.collinszyzzyva
Navigate to this and from there into quiz/data/CSW15

Paste anagrams.db

I successfully moved anagram questions with both former and new anagrams into cardbox 0, so they will be scheduled sooner.

Here's how:

After following Richard's steps for moving your cardbox from your previous Zyzzyva to Collins Zyzzyva, you can add new words to the cardbox in the usual way by including a condition for not in lexicon CSW12 in any search, and right clicking the list to add those words to your cardbox.  HOWEVER, words with formerly acceptable anagrams (e.g. ANODISER+ / ANEROIDS / DONARIES (#)) will remain at their current schedule and cardbox, and may not be quizzed for a long time.  To address that issue, do the following, but be careful:

Tools / Reschedule cardbox contents / Shift words so that this many are ready (use a number big enough so ALL questions will be ready - after the reschedule, Zyzzyva will tell you how many questions were rescheduled, and that number is the total number of questions in your cardbox)

Now start a new quiz, method: cardbox; question order: schedule; Use only words matching specification; Include the condition In lexicon NOT CSW12, and whatever other conditions you want.  I do one length at a time, and might split by probability depending on how many come up.  If you have already added new words to your cardbox, you may want to add Number of anagrams 2 or greater, to exclude some of the new words you've already studied.

Click through the quiz quickly, INTENTIONALLY MISSING every question. This throws all of these words into Cardbox 0, HOWEVER, they are not yet scheduled correctly, because you still need to reverse your rescheduling, and that will move these temporarily due soon questions, to not due for a long time.

Now Tools / Reschedule cardbox contents / Shift words so that this many are ready - 0  (Honestly, really use zero, you can reschedule again later if needed)

Now start a new quiz, method: cardbox; question order: schedule (Cardbox 0 first);<-- IMPORTANT you will have to change this; Use ALL available questions

This should bring up a quiz with just the questions you forced into Cardbox 0 along with any other questions that were in Cardbox 0 before you started.

Now go through this quiz, as a quiz, and whether you miss them or not, they should now be scheduled in the near future.

Instead of doing all that you can just right click on a search for the words you want with "Not in CSW12", and then right click on the list and select "Remove list from cardbox".  The right click again and "Add list to cardbox" and take the option to specify cardbox and select cardbox 0.
