Hi folks:
Back in January (?) I sent out a proposed plan for a 'Birthday Rides type' of cycling gathering at Geldeston near Beccles, Suffolk in June. A few of you have signed up! (Sue, Steve, Margueritte, David). I know that a few more are interested even if attending
just for a day.
This is a reminder that a special few days of cycling from a base at the Three Rivers Pitch & Paddle Camping site at Geldeston near Beccles
Bookings
- Three Rivers Camp is in the process of being finalised. The site still has vacant pitches available for the dates 16 to 19 June inclusive (leaving on 20th). If you are not a camper or motor homer, there is other accommodation available close at Beccles
and near villages. including a small motel at Gillingham just 2 miles from the site. Daily rides are planned starting from the camp site.

To check available dates please check our Availability Calendar. If your required dates are available (in green) on the Availability Calendar but no pitches come up below when you search, then it means there is not the same pitch available for all of the nights
you require. You can try searching 1 night at a time to see which pitches are available, or if you contact us directly we may be able ...

We will be based at the excellent camp and accommodation facilities at Three Rivers Pitch & Paddle site at Geldeston, just 3 miles from Beccles. I know the area well and have several routes of 25 to 70 miles distance we could use. There seems a good range
of other accommodation available in the area at Beccles or Bungay, There are 2 very good pubs within walking distance, restaurants, (including a Wetherspoons!) and rail availability at Beccles. Visiting opportunities at Carlton Colville Transport Museum,
Carlton Marshes SWT Nature Reserve, Somerleyton Hall & Gardens, Raveningham Hall Gardens, and Thursday Evening Power Boat racing at Oulton Broad, and of course lots of new tea rooms to visit! Not to mention self launch Board and kayak/canoe hire available
at the camp site.
Attached is a sheet outlining 8 rides of from 29 to 63 miles we could use, including suggested refreshment stops. I will endeavour to provide GPX files for these but attendees are advised to come with maps of their own. (OS Travel Maps 1:100,000 scale Suffolk
& Norfolk). All routes will be on roads, i.e. no 'rough stuff', using mostly minor country lanes other than where stated on the attached sheet.
If you wish to participate, drop me a line to pbfe...@hotmail.co.uk and please secure your own booking with the camp site or elsewhere.
The eagle eyed will note that a CTC Suffolk Thursday Group 'Away Day' ride is planned for the Thursday 19 June starting from Halesworth Rail Station at 11.00 (Route 1a) on the attached sheet). This is to facilitate those wanting to participate on a 'day only'
basis to join the campers for the day. If you wish to camp for the duration, including the Thursday ride, you will need to either extend/include the Thursday night in your booking or pack up early to join the ride leaving Geldeston at 9.30 or travel down
to Halesworth by 11.00. Some of us will be travelling back to the camp site at the end of the ride in order to visit the Power Boat Racing at Oulton Broad on the Thursday evening! That might tempt you to stay the extra night and head for home on Friday.
I will send GPX files and a pdf map of the routes to those who notify me they have confirmed booked accommodation. Subsequently I will be seeking volunteers to lead rides when there is a wish for more than one ride per day. Also, once on site, I will need
to log your personal contact details - address, mobile phone, ICE contact number and any medical conditions a paramedic should be made aware of . These will be kept in confidence and destroyed following the holiday.
So, I look forward to receiving your emails!
Happy planning everyone!
