Account support chats do not persist across devices/sessions

It seems that when using the chat support on your website it depends on cookies or similar technology,
so
when switching browser or computer, the chat is lost.
It happens also when logged in, that is when one thinks it has having a support chat that will persist over devices and sessions.
Am I wrong?
Can that be changed?

It uses your logged in state but it doesn't carry over always. That's just the way most of those chat/support tools work. It's also pretty darn hard to search through history there...
