Change status bar colour in real time?

You know how you can set the colours for the native status bar using colors.xml ? is there any way to do this while the app is running? it would be great, because my app has different coloured screens and it would be nice to set it for each one.

thanks, i dont want to hide it, i thought i may be able to change its colour at run time.
