I'm using TotalCross for a while. It's a great tool and makes mobile development very easy since 2001. How can CodenameOne be comparable to it?

Thanks!

I've never used Total Cross, but one thing jumps out right away (from reading their website).

Total Cross has a proprietary commercial license.  Codename One is open source.

Can't tell very much from their website.  They don't seem to have any examples of apps for modern devices that I can find - and the compatibility list says that it only works on Jailbroken iPhones.

Other solutions in this field are generally just translators that implement the VM but not true WORA solutions.
So you really build an iOS native app and need to learn the native API's, use the tools a Mac and everything else to build.

This is bad because when it fails you are in a lurch, stack overflow only discusses Objective-C based failures and you need to start looking into that. You also need to constantly port/maintain ports.

Our approach is a true WORA solution, including the full stack and a cloud build system.
I suggest you play with our solution, it doesn't take long and as Steve mentioned its free.

Hi Steve,

TotalCross is open source LGPL on their Java libraries. The vm is proprietary. Hey, CN1 uses almost the same commercial model as TotalCross (a monthly fee).

Where did you find the compatibility list? That jailbreak information is quite outdated.

I see "Free", "$0/mo", etc... https://www.codenameone.com/pricing.html

In fact we don't "license" Codename One. Its free.
The thing we sell is usage of our physical build servers but if you stop paying your license to use the code/builds is still the same and still free.
