Hello all. I hope everyone has been safe and healthy over the last few months. We haven't had a meeting in about a year for a variety of reasons, namely the birth of my daughter and then the global health crisis. But, I think we should put an end to the drought if people are available. And given the recent big announcement of Apple Silicon, I think we could have some great discussions. However, I don't think we should actually gather, so I think a virtual meeting would be a great thing to try out. So please join us on July 9th for a virtual CocoaHeadsNYC meetup. We won't have a designated speaker since I think WWDC should give us plenty to discuss in a round table environment.

Also, if you feel comfortable, get your favorite beverage to enjoy during the conversation and we can pretend we're back at Joe and Pats.

If anyone has any strong feelings on the technology to use to coordinate this virtual meeting, feel free to chime in. We have several options, Zoom, FaceTime, Messenger/Rooms, Slack?, etc.

Thanks, and I hope to see everyone next Thursday!
- Matt

I’m game. Techwise, I’d prefer to avoid Zoom. I’ve tried Google Meet before with good results and it runs completely in your browser. Or if everyone has Facetime, I’m ok with that as well.

For me ok with whatever choice is taken, I had a few meetings where people were against Zoom (I personally think is the better one out there) they opted for browser version of : https://jitsi.org seems free.
I use Google Meet everyday, quality is ok, but not the best. (but my meetings go across the globe.) I can host the Google meeting in case you need that.

Since it’s going virtual, anyone object if I stop by briefly early on just to say hi to some fellow old timers?

Of course. It'd be great to see what you are up to nowadays.

Ok, confirming our virtual meeting tonight at 6:30pm. I am not sure why I always forget Google has hangouts/meet/whatever they call it right now, but that's probably the best option. So I will send a link to the hangout around 6:20 to this thread, so please check for it and I will see you all there!

Thanks, Matt.

So I’ve never used Google whatever. (all my other virtual life has been with Zoom).

Is anything involved other than clicking on the link?

Hi everyone, here is the link to the meeting: https://meet.google.com/ccv-ofei-fxw

Hopefully everyone is able to join easily.

Bob, yes, hopefully you should just be able to go to the link above in your browser, but there is a learning curve for everyone!

Thanks, Matt.

As mentioned in this evening’s conversation, here’s a photo of the original Pentium "Developer Transition System”:

Other interesting details about the machine:

I’d hate to foot the bill to ship that back to Apple…
