All,
This evening I had a single Long-tailed Duck on the Mt. Elbert Forebay Reservoir, just north of the Twin Lakes. Other waterfowl included several Common Goldeneye and a handful of male Common Mergansers.
Several type 5 Red Crossbills were paired up in the Lodgepole around the reservoir and on the Colorado Trail. Other fun birds in the area included a Northern Goshawk and a flock of Pine Grosbeaks. One slightly out of place bird (based on my limited Rocky Mountain experience) was a single Pygmy Nuthatch in Lodgepole, though the more typical Ponderosa habitat is nearby at this location.
In the Lodgepole Forests around Turquoise Lake near Leadville I've had more crossbills (all type 5), a single Gray Jay, and handfuls of Steller's Jays, White-breasted Nuthatch, and Pine Grosbeaks over the past couple days.
Good birding,
