Hot weather is resulting in early closing and fewer birds caught. Looking forward to cooler temperatures tomorrow. Our excitement of the day was the recapture of a female Yellow Warbler that was banded as an adult in 2011, so at least 9 years old. Unlike most of our recaptures, she has been elusive; still researching but it appears she may have been recaptured only one other year. Here's the details of the day:
Least Flycatcher 1
Warbling Vireo 1 (FOS), banded 2016
House Wren 2
Gray Catbird 3 new, 1 banded 2014
Yellow Warbler 1 new, 1 banded 2011 (see above) and 1 banded 2017
American Redstart 1 (FOS)
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 2
Come
visit! Station is open daily, weather permitting, through the end of
May, except for Memorial Day. We open nets about 6:30 and close around
noon. If you would like to visit on a weekend, you must pre-register - go
to the Audubon Society of Greater Denver website. Perhaps the best time for
birders to visit is early in the morning during the week - fewer people and
more birds! (School groups arrive each day between 10:00 and 10:30.)
