Today started off very busy, we had ~20 birds in the first hour and were on pace for our busiest day of the season. Well, over the next 4 hours things slowed down considerably and we ended the day with 32 newly banded birds of 18 species. Still a fine day, and it seems there was a lot of turnover overnight, with no recaps of previously banded birds (no Kentucky Warbler seen/netted either). We had great diversity in the area, my ebird checklist for the morning topped 50 species for the first time this season. Here are our totals:

Willow Flycatcher - 1
House Wren - 1
Rock Wren - 1
Yellow Warbler - 2
Wilson's Warbler - 1
Orange-crowned Warbler - 1
Audubon's Yellow-rumped Warbler - 1
Common Yellowthroat - 2
MacGillivray's Warbler - 7
Ovenbird - 1
Lincoln's Sparrow - 2
Hermit Thrush - 2
Swainson's Thrush - 1
Yellow-breasted Chat - 1
Gray Catbird - 3
Bullock's Oriole - 3
Northern Mockingbird - 1
Brown Thrasher - 1

We are open 3 days per week (Friday - Sunday) through May 30th. Chico Basin Ranch is once again open to the public and visitors are welcome at the banding station, click here for more details on visiting. We are opening nets at about 5:30am and continuing for 5 hours, depending on weather.
