Hello, Birders.

Lots of birds this sunny Saturday morning, May 30, along the generally north-to-south transect from Gun Barrel Hill to Teller Farms, Boulder County, including:

2 black-chinned hummingbirds and 1 gray flycatcher in an intriguing patch of scrubby, rocky habitat near the southeast corner of Gun Barrel Hill. Looked like something out of Southeast Colorado. Thought I heard a distant canyon towhee in there, too, but hard to hear over all the spotted towhees.

1 orchard oriole and a territorial willow flycatcher near Boulder Creek. Audio of the song of the flycatcher: http://www.xeno-canto.org/246747

1 singing Brewer sparrow and 3 grasshopper sparrows near the southeast corner of Gun Barrel Hill. Audio of the grappers: http://www.xeno-canto.org/246743 and http://www.xeno-canto.org/246744

bobolinks and 1 savannah sparrow in the wet hayfields south of Teller Lake No. 5. Audio of the sparrow: http://www.xeno-canto.org/246745

2 territorial eastern warbling vireos. Audio: http://www.xeno-canto.org/246741 and http://www.xeno-canto.org/246742

singing blue grosbeaks and displaying Wilson snipes widely scattered

as to migrants, a weakly singing western tanager and a lustily singing Swainson thrush, both near Teller Lake No. 5

Western meadowlarks galore. In this recording, you can hear four vocalization types: http://www.xeno-canto.org/246746

In the totally random department, a Franklin gull flying past.
