stray yellowlegs below Mt Whitney?!

I was shocked to observe a yellowlegs at trail camp pond on the Mt Whitney trail, at 12,000 ft!

It posed on a boulder in the pond for several minutes, bobbing.

I found one reference that they are seen in the Sierra, but this clearly was out of the time period for migration.

Ebird did not show any sightings in that area.

Or might it have been a different shorebird species?

Have people seen them in the Rockies above treeline?

Other treats on the hike were gray-crowned roseys and a very cooperative sooty grouse, and of course the steady background songs of Hermit Thrushes.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I was in CA, in the Sierra Nevada.

Just thought some cobirders might be interested of have input.
