Good morning, CoBirders!

Dear spouse and I will be spending a couple fo days in Steamboat Springs in a couple of weeks. Just wondering where might be good places/walks for birding?

Thanks so much!

There is a nice trail that along the river that I have both ran along and bird watched sometimes at the same time.  There is also a nice botanical garden along the side of the river that is free or at least the last time we were there that also could be interesting.

There is also a great summary of building locations in the general area. I assume that you could find it online. When I was there this winter, our concierge found it for me and printed out a copy. It had descriptions, locations, and the general bird species you could expect to see in the general area.   I tried out several of them, having a great time.

Carpenter Ranch has great birding; Walden; turn offs from Rabbit Ears Pass; Sarvice Creek.

Are you looking for any species in particular?

I used to spend summers in Steamboat. Feel free to e-mail me. I can also give you names of local birders who are likely willing to help you out!

Some good info on the CFO's Colorado County Birding website.  Here is the link for Routt County:

It's an hour away, and not sure if it'd still be active this late, but a very reliable Greater Sage Grouse lek is about an hour from there, near Walden.
