Greetings all. Trying to get caught up after spending a few recent weeks in Brazil's Pantanal doing birding and photography. Came back to find I had 2 weeks of jury duty, so I am feeling a bit behind schedule at this point.

But did want to mention that the Cranes are back in the San Luis Valley. Today I toured the Monte Vista Refuge and found them in small, scattered groups. This is very typical of fall arrivals, and it is quite different than the massive, concentrated flocks of the spring migration. However, the fall foliage is still outstanding in the Valley cottonwoods so birds in unique settings can be seen and photographed.

Best locations after doing the MVNWR is to drive the nearby county roads and check out the harvested grain fields. The Gunbarrel (Hwy 15) at the 9S had good numbers recently too. Stanley Road is often good. Driving around Mosca can be productive as well.

Enjoy the season!
