Hello birders,
Beautiful snowscape at Walden and Sawhill Ponds this cloudy and cold afternoon. Some smart
visitors wore snowshoes, others cross country skis, I made do in hiking
boots. The marsh had that unusual quiet after snowfall, muffled and peaceful. The scenery was completely monochromatic—a distant Tundra Swan
blended into the black, white, and gray scenery. Also present were nine other
species of waterfowl, a Blue Jay, Northern Flicker, two Black-capped Chickadees,
and a Prairie Falcon. At the usual location I thought I briefly heard a
whispering Winter Wren, but not sure, couldn’t find it after that, maybe
wishful thinking.
Before it all melts, “Come see the north wind’s masonry….the frolic
architecture of the snow.”
