Hi.
Some of you may remember me. I was very active for a few years in the early 2000s (and used to do the newsletter and website).
I have lived in Gunbarrel since 2001, and just on the east side of the lakes since 2008. I just learned, and confirmed with the county, that the North Boulder Farmers ditch company was told by the State Engineers to remove all of the trees that surround the Twin Lakes, including those on the outside of the trails too. The county has not seen the report, but were told it was due to seepage, drought and that if a tree were to ever fall into the water, there would be dam issues. I asked why this was happening now - what changed. I was told that the inspector who had this area for years finally retired, and this was a new inspector. Tree removal is supposed to start happening now. So far, I can tell they have been trimming.
This is awful on so many levels. The wildlife is going to be hurt tremendously. There hasn't been anything in the papers yet either. I, and my neighbors, have been trying to spread the message by word of mouth initially while we look for info. We want to fight this since it is ridiculous. And I am sure if more people knew, they would also be outraged.
So, any help/advice is most appreciated.
Thanks,
Susan Winter
