The first run of the day we caught 3 Bullock's Orioles and 3 Northern Waterthrushes, and I thought, "this might be an interesting day." But, things basically returned to normal after that, with the mix of birds we've been seeing the past few days. Not huge but decent numbers, given how bad the early season was. 29 new, 2 returns, and, once again a lot (14) of birds banded earlier being recaught. Here are the new plus returns:
Downy Woodpecker, 1 return, banded 2023
Northern House Wren 2
Swainson's Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 6
Yellow Warbler 4 new, 1 return, banded 2023
Northern Waterthrush 3
Common Yellowthroat 4
Yellow-breasted Chat 1
Spotted Towhee 1
Lincoln's Sparrow 3
Red-winged Blackbird 1
Bullock's Oriole 3
We are banding Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays) through May 31, weather permitting. There are opportunities for the public to visit on weekends and occasional weekdays through the
Denver Audubon website. (Some days are already sold out, so sign up now if you are interested!)
