Leisurely fall banding continues. For the first time since August 31, another species besides Wilson's Warbler was the most frequently caught - on the 31st it was House Wrens; today it was Yellow-rumped Warblers, Chipping Sparrows and Juncos. Not a lot of birds today, but we had a great variety of species to share with Hugh and Urling's ASGD Beginning Birder class.  The Kingerys have been leading this class twice a year for a million years and continue to fill up almost every time - they have provided so many of us with a GREAT introduction to birding! Back to the 22 new birds for the day:

Black-capped Chickadee 1
House Wren 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Gray Catbird 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Aududon's 5
Common Yellowthroat 2
Wilson's Warbler 2
Chipping Sparrow 3
Song Sparrow 1
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 3

We are open 6 days per week, weather permitting, through Sunday, October 11. Our next closed day is Thursday, 10/1. We are opening nets at 6:30, and will run until noon or whenever it gets too hot or too windy or too whatever. School groups arrive about 9:30 a.m. most weekdays.
