Nice day to be at the Ranch. Twenty bird species captured today. A few surprises in the nets. I am unsure how a female Cooper's Hawk stays in the net but we caught our second one today. The females are very big to not flap their wings and remove themselves from the net. The other highlights were a Black-throated Green Warbler and Least Flycatcher. The Spotted Towhees made a grand fly-in this day as well. For those that are interested this recaptured Hermit Thrush is really enjoying the stopover site or maybe it will hang out all winter in Chico, but it has been captured the last four days and it has increased its weight each day. What a bird! I think it likes the banding handling process. (What do I know?!- It obviously is doing well at this olive grove).

The Banding Station is closed tomorrow Sunday. We will resume on Monday morning and operate Monday through Friday mornings next week.
