Unfortunately the weather wasn't very cooperative today. After a promising start, a strong breeze suddenly began within an hour and a half of open nets, and caused us to quickly shut things down. We still managed to catch a few birds, with 15 newly-banded individuals and 2 recaptures, of 5 total species. Among these was the first Ruby-crowned Kinglet of the season––our 40th species so far.

Today's summary:

Wilson's Warbler 11
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1 (FOS)
Cassin's Vireo 1
Western Tanager 1
Brown Thrasher 3 (1 new, 2 within-season recaptures)

We are open 6 days a week, closed on Sundays. This week we'll be opening nets at 6:40 AM and closing at 11:40 AM, with a potentially earlier close if it's windy like today was. My fingers are crossed for calmer conditions and more migrant activity. Visitors are welcome!
