Yesterday, on the first day of spring, as squirrel pairs chased each others, a flicker banged on metal, and robins filled the neighborhood grasses, the White-throated Sparrow that has overwintered in the yards near my Centennial home began singing. A really wonderful song to hear before the bird inevitably leaves, even if the song did not yet sound fully formed.
At the nearby Streets of Southglenn, a raven pair is on their nest over Macy's. House Finches seemed to be finishing a new nest, repairing an old one, or perhaps borrowing materials from an old nest. It was hard to say -- the female of the pair kept trying to maneuver material that looked like plastic or a ribbon that was tangled amid a nest.
