Lamar of late

Over the last few days, the following have been found in Lamar:

Carolina Wren (2) - today present at the south end of the Lamar Community College Woods (near the big junipers north of the northernmost house in the subdivision s of LCC)

Red Crossbill (flock of 18)- continuing group, in Fairmount Cemetery pines for a while mid-afternoon today, then bombed off to the north.

White-throated Sparrow continues at LCC Woods e of library (that is, about midway along the drive behind the college)

Huge (100,000-plus?) mixed flock of blackbirds gathering in the evenings ene of downtown on 196 near Lamar Speedway. This group is mostly Common Grackles, Great-tailed Grackles, and Red-winged Blackbirds, with thousands of starlings thrown in for good measure.

Brown Creepers and Red-breasted Nuthatches in various places.

Greater Yellowlegs at Northgate Park e of the Cow Palace motel.

Eastern Phoebe (immature) on Prowers CRSS just e of CR13 (northeast of town)

At least 4 Northern Cardinals at LCC.
