COBirders,

There is currently a PURPLE SANDPIPER at Lake Henry. This would be a 2nd state record. See the pin drop for the current location.

COBirders,

Just a quick update, there is still some discussion happening regarding this bird as to whether it is a PURPLE or ROCK SANDPIPER. The bird did disappear but could still be there.

The bird is now on the mudflat to the NE of the outflow still best viewed from the same spot.

I am far from a expert but the bird looks much better for Rock Sandpiper to my eye then Purple Sandpiper. Joey Kellner got flight pics of the bird which hopefully will confirm the identification.

Good birding,

Friends,
First, I have not specifically reviewed my footage library for this bird.
I've never seen a juv. Rock Sandpiper look this orange on soft parts. The only thing I see which looks like a Rock to me is the color of the underwing.
However, I've found this is more variable than indicated.
Everything else screams Purple.
Congrats this is a great bird.
