The Black-billed Cuckoo was calling persistently from at least 5:30 this morning through 7:45.

It seems to have changed its habits since arriving. The first few days it would call in the morning, late afternoon and into early evening. In retrospect we are wondering if upon arrival it was staking out a territory and was more active? Now it seems to join in the dawn chorus and quit around 8:00-8:30 am. We are not "cuckoo experts", but this does seem to make sense to us.

The best place to listen for and try to see the Black-billed Cuckoo continues to be on CTY RD 358 just East of the Wahatoya Creek in the trees on either side of the road. It has called in the yard, but generally CTY RD 358 seems to be the easiest place to hear it. The earlier the better.

We did not see or hear the Yellow-billed Cuckoo today.
