At this time the Denver CBC has 102 count day species (but not all Count Areas have reported).

In addition, we have 7 Count Week birds (might be upgraded should the remainder of the Count Areas report):
Northern Pintail
Black Scoter
Bonaparte's Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Winter Wren
White-throated Sparrow

Bringing the total to 109 species

AND

2 NEW birds never recorded in 67 years:
Nashville Warbler
Turkey Vulture

For an initial tally grand total of 111 species.

Big misses (at this time):
Pine Siskin
House Sparrow

Last year the Flagler CBC set the national record for most Lapland longspurs with only 4 teams in the field.
Can we do it again? Join us this coming Saturday and be part of a record setting team effort.
We meet Saturday, Dec 24 at the I-70 diner in Flagler at 8AM to divide into teams.
We reconvene at 1PM to compile our tally.
Please let me know if you plan to attend!

Let me heartily endorse Doug's Chamber of Commerce sell of the Flagler CBC.  (Confession moment here--I started this count.)

It is really wonderful to be part of claiming a National High for a species.  I think the Flagler CBC has managed that crown for Lapland Longspur three times in its 12 or so years since the count started.  All it takes is really rotten weather!  And, you should have that this year.

But brave it out.  Head out to Flagler and find some Lapland Longspurs.  You really won't have to spend much time out of your vehicle.  And the lunch at the I-70 Diner (one of Joe Roller's favorites) is certainly hearty.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it.  I will be in North Pinellas County, Florida preparing for our 12/26 CBC (we were 53rd in the country last year with 156 species.  But I digress, and who's making the COC sell now?)

Anyone planning to attend the Rawhide CBC on Dec 31 must let me know ASAP if they want to access the power station property.
I have to submit a form requesting access permission, so if you hope to see the large concentration of waterfowl in the cooling pond let me know now!
