Big Day Results San Luis Valley

A cool and somewhat breezy day made for some challenging birding today in the San Luis Valley. Lisa Clements, Jerry Poe and I started before dawn and had a fun and full day. Best birds were:

 

American Redstart   (only 3rd spring record for our area)  (Cat Creek, Conejos County)

Great Egret (At Russell Lakes, Saguache Cty)

Peregrine Falcon (MVNWR, Rio Grande County)

Black Terns (Smith Reservoir, Costilla County)

Wood Duck (Home Lake SWA, Rio Grande Cty)

 

Overall we felt that bird numbers and varieties were way down from previous years for this time period.
