Unidentified raptor

Hello, 

Today while birding in west Loveland I spooked a dark brown raptor with very distinct white lines on the tips of its wings similar to the coloration of a nighthawk, although I have eliminated that option because it was similar in size as a red-tailed hawk. It was dark brown and had no other distinct or viable markings other than the lines on its wings. Any idea what it might be?
