I was depressed until I saw the other banding reports - misery loves company?!

We banded only 9 birds today:

Northern House Wren 1
Hermit Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 1 (FOS)
Wilson's Warbler 6

Come visit!  Our visitor hours: Weekends we are running 3 sessions, at 8, 9, and 10 a.m.  Most weekdays (Tues through Fri) there is a 7:30 to 8:30 session.   These are small group sessions (15 or fewer visitors), and a great way to learn more about the species that move through the front range in the fall.  There is a $7 fee and registration is required - click here to register.

I was *not* depressed at all when visiting the Barr Lake Banding Station.  I saw each of the bird species being banded.  Meredith and her team did an outstanding job in demonstrating and explaining the bird catching and banding process.  Information such as migration patterns, food sources, and weather and climate was extremely fascinating.  There is a concern with the number of birds caught compared to previous years, and that these birds do not seem to be as well fed this year.  The explanations for these observations are fascinating.  Apparently, these birds need more insects.

A visit to the Barr Lake Banding Station is a must.  And I am assuming the other banding stations are worth a visit, too ;-).  A big thanks to Meredith and her team!
