It is always a joy to see the first of the migrating birds for the year. I spent about 40 minutes along CR 48 south of the lake in the wetland area and saw: L Scaups, coots, RW blackbirds, Mallards, Widgen, Shovelers, C Geese, Gadwall, Cinnamon Teal, and one Yellow Headed BB. I also saw GB herons, Greater yellowlegs, a BN stilt, willet, killdeer, and a meadowlark. It was an enjoyable time. There are also lots of birds at the large pond northeast of CR 46 and 37. It is not showing on some maps. It looks like a parking lot on the NE side of the road, but I think that it is private, so you need a very good scope to ID the birds on and around that lake from the road right-of-way. If someone knows more about that lot, I would love to hear from you. There is also another much smaller pond just south of CR 46 around the corner from the last one that often has a few birds on it.
