Just a followup about someone's comment about the timeliness of eBird alerts - I don't remember exactly who posted it - sorry.

The person had commented that the eBird alerts were not timely enough to let them know about a rare bird until the next day and it was too late.

Actually, you can setup the timing of the alerts - this individual must have set them up to receive daily, but you can set up to receive hourly instead.  Thus, if you are interested in chasing rarities in your area you may want to setup your eBird rare bird or needs alerts to come hourly instead of daily.

Yes, this does still depend on someone having made a report in eBird, just as we would depend on them posting it in COBIRDS or anywhere else.

I would also remind of the option to work with people in your region to set up a local WhatsApp group - they can be very good for getting the word out right away about sightings while people are still in the field on the bird (provided cell service is available).
