A few years back Cushman and Jones wrote a piece that appeared in the Daily Camera that highlighted Carolyn Holmberg Preserve/Rock Creek Farm.  They suggested Josh's Pond in times of signiicantly colder than normal temps.  Most of the geese had disappeared by the time I reached the pond about 45 minutes after sunrise. When I arrived I was treated to the remaining crew of a male common merganser, six mallards, one coot and a pair of mating common goldeneyes.  Lots of running across the water, wrestling/splashing and the male gliding around in the smooth water with his head cocked back and upwards.
