This morning I had 5 Evening Grosbeak fly over Clement Park, JeffCo. Although not rare in Jefferson County by any means, Evening Grosbeaks are quite scarce in town proper, even in winter. I was completely caught off guard when I first heard them. I didn't recognize the call and it took a few seconds to figure out what they were. I saw them flying west and they kept going.
They only gave a "song" vs. the various calls, which I just didn't recognize as the EVGRs that I normally encounter. It all happened fast and they were gone. I wasn't able to get a recording. Quite an expected find this morning for Clement Park bird #204!
Good birding,
